Hooded Eyelids
A hooded eyelid occurs when the skin above the eyelid crease droops down until it reaches the lashline and covers the lid of your eye. It runs in many families, so it is not always a sign that something is an issue. However, you should be cautious if your eyes have recently developed a droop.
One cause of drooping is simply old age. As the skin loses collagen, it becomes less elastic and starts to droop down. This is partially just a cosmetic issue, though it can become a medical problem if it droops so far that it is impairing your eyesight. If the rest of your skin is not sagging or only one eyelid is looking hooded, you may need to visit a doctor. This is often a sign of some sort of injury to the brain or cranial nerve. Conditions like strokes, brain tumors, diabetes, muscular dystrophy, aneurysms, and multiple sclerosis can all cause drooping eyes.
