Bladder Problems
It is believed that bladder problems occur in at least 80 percent of those with multiple sclerosis. This issues begin when MS lesions start forming and block or delay transmissions within the nerve signals around the central nervous system (CNS) that control the urinary and bladder sphincters.
Overactive or spastics bladders will be unable to hold normal amounts of urine. Other bladders may be unable to empty entirely and can cause other urinary problems like increased urgency to urinate; hesitancy to start; frequent trips to the bathroom in the evening (nocturia); and incontinence.
Repeated urinary tract infections (UTIs) and kidney stones are also common in those with MS.
