Authenticity and Specificity
Remember “KISS,” as in “Keep It Sincere and Specific.” Making broad, vague, or even overly exaggerated statements can make it seem disingenuous. Instead, focus on speaking honestly and specifically. For instance, instead of telling someone “nice job,” you can say “You have a knack for putting things in order” or something that precisely points out what you are praising.
This also includes adding “I” to your phrasing. When you say “I think that shirt goes nice with your skin tone,” or “I like how you thought of me when making the menu for the party,” and so on, you come across as more heartfelt and honest.
