Your Home and Work Environment

You might have noticed the pattern between environment and the risk level of contracting M. tuberculosis. It’s true. Where you live and work influences the prevalence of tuberculosis. The American Lung Association has stated that anyone who resides anywhere near someone with TB are vulnerable.

Other work locations that increase your risk include hospitals, since doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals come into contact with people infected by TB rather often. Places that have poor ventilation or even unsanitary or cramped conditions, such as shelters, prisons, immigration centers, nursing homes, and the like are also known for spreading TB rapidly.
