Insufficient Medical Care

Poverty is one of the reasons some areas around the world have a higher prevalence of active tuberculosis than other places. When individuals do not have access to adequate healthcare, they are at a higher risk of contracting tuberculosis. In other words, those who live in low income regions, rural or remote areas, or who are homeless are more susceptible to the disease.

Because some groups and individuals do not have access to healthcare, including refuge groups, they are also much less likely to receive a diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
