Seizure Triggers
If you find yourself thinking, “What if I don’t have any of the risk factors? Am I still at risk?” then look over the seizure triggers below:
• Missing medication doses
• Disrupted sleep
• Chronic sleep deprivation
• Heavy psychological stress
• Alcoholism
• Alcohol withdrawal – evidence suggests that repeated withdrawal symptoms from alcohol can increase the frequency of seizures and epileptic activity.
• Use of recreational drugs like cocaine, Ecstasy, heroin, amphetamines, PCP, and MDMA
• Carbon monoxide, lead, and other heavy metal poisoning
• Nutritional deficiencies and long-term malnutrition
• Flashing lights or patterns
• Specific noises or foods
• Hormonal changes
Remember, there is no known cause for epilepsy, and sometimes seizures can happen in people that never experienced them before.
