Metabolic Disorders
Disorders that alter metabolism within the body can factor into epilepsy. For instance, prolonged electrolyte imbalances caused by changes in calcium, magnesium, and sodium have been known to cause seizures.
Hypoglycemia, or low blood glucose, and hyperglycemia (high blood glucose) can induce seizures. Hypoxia, a deficiency in the amount of oxygen reaching the brain, also increases the risk of seizures.
