Although redness of the conjunctiva can be caused by a whole list of reasons, it is the most common indicator of pink eye. More often than not, only the affected eye will become red. It is important if you have reason to believe that you have pink eye to be more cautious when it comes to keeping the eye and area clean in order to lessen the chances of spreading the infection to the unaffected eye. Your eye can become either red or pink. To check, pull your eyelid away from your eye in order to examine if your eye is infected. Although pink eye can be itchy and scratching your eye might be tempting, make sure not to do so. This is especially hard for young children and for this reason they often re-infect themselves and them. If you have older children make sure that you stress the importance of proper hygiene like hand washing.
