    Aloe Vera

You may know of aloe vera as a natural remedy for burns. The leaves of these plants contains a gel-like substance that is full of natural minerals and vitamins and fiber that make it a wonderful panacea. Aloe vera also contains anti-inflammatory and laxative properties. This is due to the presence of a compound called barbaloin, which increases water content and mucus within the bowels. In turn, stool is loosened and able to pass out of your body more easily.

Since prolonged constipation may cause inflammation around the anal canal, you might start to feel pain. Aloe vera can reduce the swelling and pain. A chemical called C-glucosyl chromone, which is present in aloe vera juice and gel, reduces the formation of the hormones called prostaglandins.

Common dosage for aloe vera is around 0.04-0.17 grams of dried aloe juice or 100 ml of aloe vera gel twice daily, every 5-6 hours. Popular ways of consuming aloe vera include drinking juice with aloe, which can be difficult to find depending on where you are located, and aloe vera gel capsules.

Though there are few side effects, excessive consumption of aloe vera may cause cramping and diarrhea. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also avoid aloe supplements. Aloe may also decrease the effectiveness of hormonal drugs, other anti-inflammatories, and cholesterol-lowering medication.
