Negative Health Effects of Overeating at Thanksgiving

Your blood sugar levels can rise

Having a large meal can give the body more glucose or blood sugar than it needs. This can easily happen with meals packed with simple carbohydrates, e.g., creamed corn cornbread. These carbs are quickly absorbed into the blood stream causing blood sugar levels to spike. To counter the effect of excess sugar, the body will need to speed up the release of the hormone insulin to help convert it into energy. This insulin function does not work well in pre-diabetics and diabetics and can result in hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) symptoms such as nausea or vomiting, excess thirst or hunger, and fatigue.
