Coughing Up Mucus From Lungs
As mentioned earlier in the chronic coughing section, some COPD coughs are productive. Once you start coughing nonstop and bringing up mucus, you should be concerned. The body naturally produces sputum to trap any harmful substances from entering the airways. Someone who frequently smokes will automatically produce far more mucus than a non-smoker.
But in the case of COPD, you might notice yellowish or greenish mucus that is typically thicker in the morning. Patients note that they are constantly attempting to clear the thick phlegm from their throat and chest.
