Unintentional Weight Loss
Most people do not go a day without being concerned about how much they way. For those with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, it is the reverse. Weight loss might happen suddenly and without any real effort. Since unusual weight loss is an early sign of COPD, it is often what alerts people to the fact that something is not right. Many COPD sufferers also have lack of appetite, which is also disconcerting.
But why does COPD cause such rapid weight loss? For the same reason people with the disease are also always tried: Endless activity. Since the lungs are working extra hard and respirations are difficult, the body expends much more energy than if things were working optimally.
