Blue Nails and Lips
Some people with COPD develop a symptom known as cyanosis, or a blueish tint to the lips and nail beds of their fingers and toes. Sometimes, the color is more dark purple or even gray. When someone develops cyanosis, it means that there is not enough oxygenated blood in the body.
There are two kinds of cyanosis: central and peripheral. Central cyanosis refers to the blueness of lips, tongue, and mouth. Peripheral cyanosis involves blueness of the extremities. Either way, once you notice that you have developed blueness, you should contact medical services immediately.
