What are complications caused by Morgellons disease?

There are several complications that may arise when you are affected by Morgellons disease. First, since the sensation of itching and crawling insects under the flesh is both distracting and unsettling, most people will begin to fixate on the feeling and become unable to function. Alongside their fixation on their skin, scratching at the lesions will affect self-confidence. Sequentially, quality of life will suffer, and the individual might isolate themselves from family and friends.

Furthermore, when the lesions are repeatedly ripped open by fingernails, the wounds can become larger and will take much longer to heal. This inevitably leads to scarring. Should the wounds get infected, the bacteria could move into the bloodstream and cause life-threatening sepsis.

Avoid touching your skin as much as possible, and never pick at scabs or open sores. If necessary, apply dressings to open wounds and use bactracin ointment or something similar to prevent sores from getting infected.
