Low Sex Drive In Women

Hormonal Causes

Your hormones also play a role in how you perceive sex and desire. When your hormonal balance is disrupted, the following can occur:

Pregnancy. During pregnancy, after having a baby, and even during breast-feeding, the sex hormones are changing. Women are also usually exhausted during this period in life. This leads to less desire for sex.

Perimenopause and Menopause. During the process of losing ones menstrual cycle will cause lows and highs in estrogen and other sex hormones. Because of this, women will experience less interest in sex, less vaginal lubrication, pain during sex, and even difficulty with arousal. Although post-menopause does not always impact sex drive, many women do experience reduced pleasure during the changes.

Hormonal disorders. Sometimes women have low estrogen due to medical issues like PCOS or ovarian cysts and other reproductive issues. Even the thyroid and pituitary gland can develop medical conditions, and that can impact your sex drive.
