Your Cells Begin to Shrink
One of the downsides of aging is that your cells will begin to shrink. Yes, you might lose a few inches due to aging, but there is more to it than that. Biologically speaking, the older you are, the less surface area your cells have. This means that anything from caffeine to alcohol will hit your system harder and faster than when you were younger. That is why older adults will often crave protein and fat over carbohydrates, because their body doesn’t need as much sugar to function.
Be sure to keep this in mind as you adjust your diet throughout the years. All that coffee you chugged as a college student is going to hit you much harder when you are 60 or 70! Fruit, vitamins, and medication will also change. Be sure to talk to your doctor if you plan on taking a supplement or switching up your diet if you are unsure.
