5. Avoid Problematic Foods and Drinks
One of the biggest triggers of heartburn is the food and drinks that we consume. As we mentioned above, citrus fruits are very acidic and can lead to heartburn. Other foods that make our list of foods to avoid include fatty foods, chocolate, and tomatoes.
When it comes to drinks, like we mentioned earlier, caffeinated drinks are sure thing to avoid. The reason for this is because many caffeinated drinks like coffee are highly acidic but also because they can relax the esophageal sphincter, which increases the likelihood that stomach acid will make its way back up. Other drinks to avoid are any carbonated beverages as well as alcohol for similar reasons.
