Ovarian Cancer Screening
Ovarian cancer is characterized by abnormal division and growth of cells from the ovary. There are several different types of ovarian cancer. The most common cause tumors which arise from the lining cells of the ovary. They include; epithelial ovarian, primary peritoneal and fallopian tube cancers. Ovarian cancer is responsible for approximately 15,000 deaths of women between 50 and 75 years old every year.
When you go for ovarian cancer screening, your doctor will conduct a pelvic exam to check for signs of cancer. He/she should also examine the exposed vulva and then proceed to press down on your abdomen while checking your ovaries and uterus. A speculum may be used to open and allow a visual inspection of your vagina for abnormalities.
