Learn How To Savor Everything

When you savor something, you are truly stepping beyond what is material and looking to essence—the limitlessness. You see that what you are savoring can help you expand. You savor because you want to experience that moment for just a little longer.

This might sound confusing at first, so let’s call savoring by another name: mindfulness. When you are mindful of something, you focus on it. You break down the experience into six facets related to your senses. You think about the way that moment tastes, smells, how it looks, what you hear, and how it affects you internally.

A lot of people like to focus on food as a mindfulness practice, especially if you find that lately you can’t remember what you had for lunch or if food has been bland. You can try taking your favorite food, or something with varying textures like crunchy tortilla chips and salsa. Think about acidity, the salt, the sounds you hear as you chew, and the flavors as they dance across your tongue.

If you’re not a foodie, you might think about motion. For example, when you go running on a windy day, you might get the sensation that you’re flying. You might focus on the sound of the wind as it rushes past your ears and caresses your back. You could sense the way your clothing billows around you.

Simply put, if you practice mindfulness, you will be awed by the miraculous world that we live in. Every moment will become magical, and you will be more invested in what you are doing every second.
