Soy Products
Soy products are high in demand for those trying to lose weight and stay healthy due to their high-quality plant protein value. Soy products are however not good for those trying to fuel their bodies on fats and should be avoided. Products include soy milk and imitation meats such as tofu. Soy milk is sweetened with sugar unless the container is marked “unsweetened.” A serving can contain about 10 g of carbs, depending on the brand, with 6 g coming from sugar. Soy products also contain phytates which may not be properly absorbed by the body and plant hormones that can cause imbalance in the body’s natural hormonal system. Hormonal imbalances can disrupt metabolic functions and prevent weight loss. Health experts supporting this high-fat, low-carb food regimen recommend almond or coconut milk instead.
