Legumes
Legumes come from plants and are high in protein and fiber. Popular legumes are peas, beans, and lentils. They make good protein alternatives for vegans and those wanting to avoid animal proteins and fats. However, these legumes can adversely affect your metabolism and throw your health goals off track! The reason being, like many other high protein plant foods they are also rich in carbs. Take 1 cup of cooked red beans and you will be consuming 40 g of carbs! Granted, it is high in protein with about 15 g per serving but its high carb content voids it as a ketogenic food.
