How Many Women Are Affected By PCOS?

Women of any race or ethnicity can get polycystic ovary syndrome. Within the age bracket of 15-44 years, anywhere between 2.2 to 26.7 percent of women will experience PCOS. That is about a 1 in 10 chance. Presently, there is an estimated total of 5 million women in the United States with the condition. Unfortunately, many women with PCOS do not know they have the condition. In fact, up to 70 percent of women have not been diagnosed yet.

That is why it is important for women to understand the causes, risks, and symptoms of PCOS so they can get proper treatment. If you are in your 20s or 30s and have unexplained weight gain, irregular hair growth, and other symptoms listed in this article, or even have a family history of PCOS, be sure to see a doctor as soon as you can.
