Thyroid Nodules
Thyroid nodules are similar to goiters but are not the same. Nodules are usually a single lump whereas goiters can be multiple sizes and grow in clusters. Sometimes, nodules cannot be detected with physical deformities but only close medical examinations.
Some nodules can cause hyperthyroidism, but many of them are benign or non-functioning, meaning they cause no symptoms and no dysfunctions. However, you need to keep in mind that some thyroid nodules end up becoming cancerous.
Sometimes, nodules may also grow in such a way that they interfere with swallowing and breathing. If you are having trouble with your throat but other causes have been ruled out, you might want to consider that a thyroid nodule is causing the problem. Make an appointment with your primary care physician to make sure.
