Goiter
People can get one to several kinds of growths on the thyroid, also known as goiters. These nodules or lumps are produced during both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. Sometimes it is a result of pituitary gland issues or the production of nontoxic multinodular glands due to excess hormones.
Another reason people can get goiters would be if they eat too much goiter-causing foods, such as soybeans, cabbage, peaches, peanuts, spinach, and rutabagas. These foods are known to suppress the release of thyroid hormones as well as interfering with iodine processing in the thyroid. Since goiter has long been associated with a lack of iodine in the diet, since the 1920s, iodine has been added to table salt.
