Toxic Thyroid Adenoma
There is one other kind of thyroid nodule that is worth mentioning. Toxic thyroid adenoma is a condition that results in the excessive production of thyroid hormones from a single point, or nodule, on the thyroid gland. In other words, a lump grows on the thyroid gland, and from that lump an excess of thyroid hormones is released.
The cause is usually a lack of iodine in the system. Without enough iodine, the thyroid enlarges its surface area by swelling and attempting to soak up as much iodine in the blood as it can.
Symptoms of toxic thyroid adenoma include sudden weight loss, fatigue, body tremors, excessive perspiration, flushing, and more. It is similar to hyperthyroidism.
