Bone Fractures or Breaks
Muscles are not the only thing to be negatively influenced by a lack of protein. Protein deficiency can also take a toll on bone health since it is necessary to have a certain level of protein for calcium to be absorbed and for bone metabolism to function. Therefore, when an incident occurs such as a fall, an individual who is protein deficient is at an increased risk of a fracture or break due to the resulting weakening of the bones. As we mentioned above, protein can help with the healing process and the production of new cells. Therefore, a lack of protein can also lead to longer recovery times.
