Common Flu Symptoms

Sudden, Intense Fatigue

Since flu season is generally when the nights are longer and there is less sunlight, you might find yourself feeling less energetic than you would during the spring and summer months. However, there is a noticeable difference between that kind of tired and the flu-related fatigue that slams you out of nowhere.

One of the earliest signs of the flu is the onset of excessive fatigue. In fact, it may be the first symptom you notice. Fatigue is generated by the immune response, since you body is diverting all available energy to fighting off the virus that hasn’t affected you significantly enough yet for other symptoms to occur.

However, you will soon notice that this fatigue interferes with other activities. Working might get harder, since you can’t think correctly. When this happens, it is best to limit work and other errands to give your body time to rest. Even if you don’t have the virus, taking a few days off can do your body a world of good and keep your immune system strong.
