Sensory impairments

A decline in sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch is common among people over the age of 70. According to the University of Chicago School of Medicine, 94 percent of older adults in the U.S. have one sensory deficit, 38 percent have two sensory deficits, and 28 percent have three to five sensory deficits.

Thankfully, sight and hearing deficits are easily treatable with glasses and hearing aids. Unfortunately, there is no technology that is available to treat the loss of taste, smell, or touch.
