Physical Injury

Falling is a major cause of injury and death among seniors. An older adult is taken to an emergency room every 15 seconds to be treated for injuries from a fall. Older adults also die from falling every 29 minutes.

Aging causes bones to become more fragile and for muscles to lose strength and flexibility. This increases an elderly person’s chance of losing their balance and falling. An increase in physical activity and a healthy diet can help to maintain strong bones and muscles. Modifications may also need to be in place throughout an elderly person’s home to prevent falls.
