Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome
You might be familiar with carpal tunnel syndrome, which affects the hands and wrist. You may not know that there is a similar condition known as tarsal tunnel syndrome, which is the result of pressure on the posterior tibial nerve, located in the inner heel. This can cause both numbness and tingling in the feet but also other symptoms such as feelings of tightness, shooting pains in the feet, or shocking or burning type sensations.
The above symptoms can seemingly come out of nowhere or they can be persistent. If not caught early and treated appropriately, tarsal tunnel syndrome can result in irreversible nerve damage.
