Parasites

A parasite is a microscopic organism, similar to a bacteria or a virus, that can enter the body through a number of orifices or by drinking polluted water or eating contaminated food. The parasite then settles within the digestive tract and starts causing mayhem. People are most likely to pick up parasites while they are traveling, while trying raw or undercooked foods, or other risky behaviors, like swimming in contaminated water.

Once you have been infected by a parasite, it may cause discomforts and diarrhea. The parasites that commonly cause diarrhea include Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia, and Cryptosporidium enteritis. It is extremely important that if you are experiencing diarrhea for a prolonged period or see blood in your stool that you see a doctor immediately.
