Cancer treatments like chemotherapy can damage the salivary glands, which will limit the amount of saliva they can produce. Chemotherapy also causes the salivary glands to produce thicker saliva, which creates a feeling of dry mouth. Dry mouth from chemotherapy is a temporary condition and goes away once the chemotherapy has stopped.
