Dehydration

Drinking plenty of fluids is important because this helps to prevent dry mouth. Dehydration causes the body to retain bodily fluids as much as possible. As a result, when you become dehydrated, your mouth becomes dry and you have no need to urinate.

The weather, an illness, a chronic disease, and certain medications can cause you to become dehydrated. In most cases, you can treat yourself when you become dehydrated by drinking fluids. In some cases, you may experience dehydration that is so severe that you need to be hospitalized and treated with fluids through an IV.
