Autoimmune Diseases

Approximately 25% of individuals with inflammatory autoimmune diseases (such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis) also have co-morbid fibromyalgia. Currently fibromyalgia is not considered to be an autoimmune disorder since it does not usually present with the same degree of inflammation and cause as much damage as autoimmune diseases usually do . However, it is possible that it will be considered one in the future since autoimmunity could be a contributing factor.
