Illness
Did you know that “cold sores” have been given their name for a very good reason? During times of illness, the body is unable to fight the herpes virus with the same vigor that it does when you are healthy. Thus, an outbreak can happen.
A common cold, flu or fever can work against your body, but recognizing that you may be
getting ill can help you to prepare and prevent an outbreak as much as possible.
If you find that getting a cold, the flu, or any other changes in your body listed above can trigger cold sores for you, the best thing you can do is to try to prevent them from happening. That can be easier said than done, sometimes. The best remedy is rest and relaxation. If you feel that you are becoming sick, you should try to get extra rest, going to bed early and calling in sick to work will help reduce the stress that your body experiences and can mitigate an outbreak.
