Laryngitis
Coughing could also mean you have laryngitis which is an inflammation of the larynx or voice box. Laryngitis is caused by irritation, infection or overusing the voice box. The condition affects the vocal cords (causes them to swell) which, in turn, affects the voice. Laryngitis-related coughing doesn’t result in the production of phlegm or mucus. The cough is usually dry and clears up in a few weeks. If the cough persists and comes alongside other symptoms such as coughing blood, visit a doctor immediately.
