Coughing can also be caused by dust and chemicals in the air. Such coughing results from the constant urge to clear the airways from dust and chemicals. Coughs caused by environmental dust/chemicals are treated using certain ACE inhibitors prescribed to control ailments like high blood pressure. The medication can cause some side effects among long-term users. These side effects include; a stubborn lingering chronic cough. Environmental related coughing is caused by low-level chemical burns in the airways over a prolonged period.
