Women Are Not Immune To Strokes

Many people make the assumption that strokes only occur in men but this is not the case. In one report from researchers at Harvard, some recent statistics indicate that although in the recent past men’s likelihood of having a stroke has decreased, the rate for women has stayed the same. More specifically, ischemic strokes, which are associated with blood clots that decrease blood flow to the brain, make up for almost 90 percent of all strokes in the United States and have been found to occur less in men within the last ten years but the same cannot be said to be true for women. Other health factors that might be playing a role in the consistency of rates in women include
Diabetes, high blood pressure and pregnancy-related conditions like gestational diabetes and preeclampsia.
