Save around 30 percent of your income annually.
If 30 percent seems like too much right now, don’t worry. Just save something, even if its just 10 percent. At least you will be better off than most of your peers who cannot even afford a $400 emergency.
By making micro-changes to your lifestyle, you can reduce the overall cost of living and save a lot of money. And that money can be put into your savings for later in life. Maybe you can stop eating out so much and cook at home. Maybe you can stop purchasing expensive coffee that doesn’t even taste good and make that latte at home.
Small swaps can have a tremendous effect, and if you commit to squirreling away those tiny chunks of change, it will soon become a mountain of cash.
Also, do not be afraid to treat others once in a while. Sometimes, doing something kind of someone else, like buying your best friend their favorite book, can be uplifting and heartwarming.
