Plan a Vacation
If you ever needed a reason for scheduling a vacation or even a weekend day trip, here it is. Did you ever notice the high you get when you make a plan to get away from it all? Booking a plane ticket oftentimes feels as good as going on the trip itself, and there is a reason for that.
Research has found that the anticipation of a vacation can boost happiness for as long as eight weeks. Once the vacation was complete, happiness immediately returned to the baseline for most participants in the study.
The best part is that you don’t even need to plan for a trip one week in the future to get this effect. Even a vacation that is coming in a year or two can boost your happiness, because you now have something positive to look forward to.
Can’t take a vacation? Why not mentally check-out for a few hours or two? There was a study that reported people who merely thought about their favorite movie experienced a 27 percent increase in endorphins. So if you have been thinking about having a movie marathon, why not do it? You will surely be happier because of it!
