Sleep Off Negativity
When you sleep, your body is recovering from everything you’ve been doing, whether that’s lifting heavy in the gym, stressing over a final paper, or even just living your day-to-day life. Sleep also effects your happiness level, though.
That is why those who are sleep deprived are often much less optimistic and less productive. Here’s why:
Any negative stimulation you receive is processed by a section of the brain called the amygdala, while positive and negative memories are both taken in by the hippocampus. When you don’t sleep, the hippocampus takes a hit and so the amygdala is more active, flooding you with responses to negative things.
Aim for around 7-8 hours a day of quality sleep. You will be surprised how much a good night’s rest will help you think more clearly and make you much more productive.
