If you are reading this list and none of the other causes seem to fit with your experience, it might be that a medication that you are on is the cause. The main culprit is the group of medications used to lower blood pressure by ridding the body of fluids, called diuretics.
Other medications to blame include: drugs used to treat osteoporosis such as raloxifen; intravenous iron sucrose which is used to treat anemia; asthma medications including albuterol; conjugated estrogens which are used to treat menopause symptoms; and pain medications such as pregabalin. If you noticed an increased in your leg cramps after starting a new medication, inform your doctor and see if they can find an alternative without this annoying side effect.
