What Nobody Tells You About Aging (Until It’s Too Late)

Senses Change

When we’re babies, we have 9,000 taste buds. As we get older, than number decreases. This means that your sensitivity to flavors—sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and umami—starts declining. This change happens in women 10-20 years earlier than men.

Another change in the senses happens in the ears. Around 40 years old, the eardrum and inner ear changes. This affects your hearing and, since the inner ear is connected to balance, you might feel a bit more wobbly too.

Lastly, around 40 years old, you might start struggling to read fine print in dim lighting or feel that your eyes are dryer than normal. A lot happens to the eyes as you get older, including certain diseases, so its important to have regular check ups with an eye doctor and wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from UV damage. Eat lycopene as well, since that decreases your risk of cataracts and macular degeneration.
