Discomfort Increasing During Rest
Individuals with Restless Legs Syndrome usually feel worse when they are least active. This is precisely why RLS symptoms are common later in the day and when a person is sleeping. According to WebMD, periodic limb movement syndrome which is linked to RLS causes repetitive leg jerking or cramping during sleep.
The source states that these movements tend to occur after every 20 seconds or so which can cause annoyance to a spouse of co-sleeping partner. The movements disrupt sleep and cause the sufferers to feel fatigued during the day because they lack proper sleep/rest. It’s worth noting that 80% of individuals with Restless Legs Syndrome suffer from periodic limb movement disorder. However, the same isn’t true according to WebMD.
