Pituitary Tumors
About 10% of all brain tumor cases are pituitary tumors. As the name suggests, pituitary tumors arise from the pituitary gland located underneath the brain behind the eyes. Pituitary tumors cause a wide range of health problems because the pituitary gland is responsible for a variety of important functions from hormonal release to sending messages to important organs in the body like the ovaries, thyroid, and testicles. Pituitary tumors exhibit symptoms ranging from weight gain and vision loss to lowered sex drive and mood swings. Luckily, most pituitary tumors are non-cancerous.
