Stop Smoking
Smoking does more than coat the lungs in tar and age you prematurely. The chemicals in tobacco products can increase your risk of developing cancer. Your immune system is also taxed, meaning that when a virus like the flu comes along, your chances of catching it are much greater than someone who doesn’t smoke at all.
Furthermore, research points to another risk of smoking: Not only do smokers catch the flu more often, their symptoms are often worse. Many older smokers are at risk of death.
On a similar note, avoid alcohol as well. When you are sick, smoking and alcohol will inevitably lengthen the recovery process, making it more difficult to feel better and stay better.
