Dry Mouth and Eyes
Ever suddenly have a parched mouth and dry eyes that ache and are puffy? These are common signs of Lupus, or to be more specific, dry eyes and mouth are the result of another autoimmune disease that those with Lupus often get.
The condition is called Sjogren’s disease. For many years, Sjogren’s disease was often misdiagnosed as allergies and other conditions. The disease leads to dry mouth and eyes because the glands that are responsible for saliva and tears start to malfunction. Lymphocytes also accumulate in the glands. Other areas affected by Sjogren’s disease include the skin and, for women, the vagina.
