Thyroid Problems
Lupus and thyroid issues are oftentimes a pair. Since the thyroid is the center of the body’s metabolism and other endocrine functions, it is one of the first systems that Lupus will affect. Improper of the thyroid will cause metabolic disruptions leading to weight gain and weight loss.
Weight loss may happen gradually or suddenly, sometimes resulting in a loss of twenty pounds a month for some people. Others will experience hypothyroidism, which can cause continuous weight gain even with diet and exercise. Sometimes, the weight gain is due to bloating and edema from inflammation.
