Trouble Concentrating

Difficulties concentrating and with remembering things are another symptom of Fibromyalgia, which makes sense after reading about Fibromyalgia and its association with exhaustion. It is unknown if there are additional causes (aside from exhaustion) that lead to these issues with concentration and memory. Short-term memory is affected more than long-term memory, which means that individuals with Fibromyalgia have a harder time retaining information that has been recently learned than they do remembering things associated with their past. Often times individuals with Fibromyalgia will report feeling sluggish or feeling a bit foggy which can of course be frustrating.

It is so prevalent that it has its own slang word for it, “fibro-fog.” Again, more research in this area is needed. This time, in order to determine whether or not there is something specific about Fibromyalgia at play that decreases the brain’s capability to function in a more efficient way, possibly by interfering with the pathways between synapses.
