Environmental Sensitivity
Another sensitivity that some individuals with Fibromyalgia experience is an extremely high sensitivity to changes in their environment. For instance, they may be more sensitive to environmental factors such as smell, sound, and sight. For example, many report being unable to stand the smell of a freshly painted room. Other scent triggers include different perfumes, cigarette smoke, and chemical-based cleaning products. This can be problematic as it is impossible to know what might trigger you on a certain day and what certain scent triggers might be present in a specific environment.
In addition to scent, sound and light can also cause issues for those with Fibromyalgia as they tend to be more sensitive and experience sounds louder than they actually are and lights brighter than is the case, which means that things like concerts not terribly enjoyable.
